A routine school drop-off turned deadly in Hyderabad on Monday when a 54-year-old realtor was brutally murdered in a meticulously planned attack that investigators now link to a revenge plot spanning over two decades.

G Venkata Ratnam was fatally stabbed and shot by a gang of attackers shortly after dropping his daughter at school in Jawahar Nagar. The brazen assault unfolded in broad daylight amid heavy traffic and numerous witnesses.

Prime Suspect Allegedly Sought Revenge for Father’s 1999 Encounter Death

Investigation sources reveal the attack was motivated by long-simmering vengeance rather than recent business disputes. The prime suspect, Chandan Singh, is reportedly the son of Sudesh Singh, who died in a controversial police encounter in 1999.

According to sources familiar with the investigation, Chandan Singh believed Venkata Ratnam had worked as a driver for his father and later acted as an informer to police, leading to Sudesh Singh’s death 26 years ago.

The alleged betrayal fueled a quarter-century obsession for revenge, according to a reported confession by the accused.

Month-Long Surveillance Preceded the Attack

Chandan Singh allegedly spent years searching for Venkata Ratnam, who had settled with his family in Hyderabad’s Jawahar Nagar area. After locating the victim in recent weeks, the suspect reportedly spent the last month following him and planning the execution.

The Monday morning attack was carried out with brutal precision. CCTV footage, which has circulated widely, captured the dramatic sequence of events.

• Venkata Ratnam was intercepted while riding his scooter
• Attackers arrived in an auto-rickshaw and on a motorcycle
• The auto-rickshaw blocked the victim by approaching from the reverse direction
• Multiple attackers stabbed him in the stomach, back, and neck

• The gang fled immediately after the assault

The attackers included men who reportedly worked in Chandan Singh’s auto workshop.

Six Suspects Surrender Hours After Murder

Just hours after the shocking incident, six individuals including alleged mastermind Chandan Singh surrendered at the Shahnazgunj Police Station. The Shahnazgunj police promptly informed their counterparts at Jawahar Nagar station, where the murder case had been registered.

Malkajgiri DCP Ch. Sridhar inspected the crime scene. A full-scale investigation into both the motive and the exact sequence of events, including the use of firearms, is now underway.
