The United States has released its National Security Strategy 2025, positioning India and the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue as cornerstone elements in Washington’s Indo-Pacific approach. The December 4 document delivers the toughest assessment of China to date while largely sidelining Pakistan in America’s strategic calculations.

Despite ongoing trade tensions, reciprocal tariffs, H-1B visa issues, and rising anti-immigrant rhetoric under President Donald Trump, the US is now positioning India as a key strategic partner. “The Indo-Pacific is already the source of almost half the world’s GDP based on purchasing power parity (PPP), and one third based on nominal GDP. That share is certain to grow over the 21st century. Which means that the Indo-Pacific is already and will continue to be among the next century’s key economic and geopolitical battlegrounds,” the document said.

The strategy calls for strengthening partnerships with nations capable of balancing regional power dynamics, explicitly naming India as vital to this effort.

“We must continue to improve commercial (and other) relations with India to encourage New Delhi to contribute to Indo-Pacific security, including through continued quadrilateral cooperation with Australia, Japan, and the United States (‘the Quad’),” the document stated in the Asia section focused on winning the economic future and preventing military confrontation.
